I love having beautiful nails in fact before I developed an allergic reaction to some of the chemicals in nail polish I was a nail polish addict. I had a nail polish collection that was close to becoming absurd. I could probably paint a wall with my stash if I wanted to. Unfortunately most of it had to go and I mourned my colorful collection.
However there’s one thing I hated about doing my nails. A few things annoyed me like getting paint on my finger or removing glitter polish but what really got under my skin was the waiting. I am probably one of the least patient people you can find and waiting for polish to dry between coats and afterwards was torture.
So I did a bit of investigation on how much time I wasted on watching paint dry. Most of my polishes took around 5 minutes between coats to dry. I normally did a base coat, two colour coats and a top coat. After the manicure was complete I waited around 20-30 minutes before resuming some activity.
I’ve never used fast drying polish as it dries out my nails so the amount of time will differ if you use this type of polish or if you use a UV gel polish. Here are my calculations for good old fashioned nail polish;
Drying time between coats 15 minutes
Drying time after manicure 20 minutes
Total wasted time/ manicure 35 minutes
I did my nails once a week which means I wasted more than 30 hours a year waiting for my nails to dry! There is a lot of shopping, sleeping, entertaining and baking I could do in 30 hours. This really annoyed me.
Thankfully I’m not wasting this absurd amount of time any more. After switching to DinkiBelle nail wraps I don’t have to wait for my mani to dry, I still use a top coat (Maybeline Gell Effect or Sally Hansen top coat) which takes about three minutes to dry on the nail wraps. And I only do my nails every 10-14 days instead of once a week.
What could you do with an extra 30 hours?
